Community Gardens
Gardening together is one of the most rewarding activities that a community can do, and getting dirty for a great cause excites everyone! I have yet to see a grumpy gardener--there's something to that; being outdoors and working the soil brings harmony and healing to everyone and it's ripe with educational benefits. To see your child learning about proper planting techniques or petal formations from a lifelong, avid gardener is to witness one of the sweetest teaching moments ever!
All around us there are planting opportunities for our families and our communities and many people just don't realize how easy it is to get your neighbors growing together. The process doesn't happen overnight, but very few rewarding endeavors do. Our own MdTL garden expansion is thanks to an energized and determined parent who decided to pose the question and start a dialogue with the City of San Rafael. So the next time you're walking around your neighborhood, take special note of the empty lots, or vacant strips of land--the smallest of gardens can yield an incredible amount of wholesome, fresh food. The American Community Garden Association has great tips for how to do this in your neighborhood. STARTING A COMMUNITY GARDEN

YUMMY WORDS

“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things... I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.”
~ Leo F. Buscaglia
