Even the Humming Bird Must Pause

"Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself."

Hermann Hesse

My summer garden at the close of a long warm day is one of my favorite places to be. 15 minutes at peace amongst the plants has the power to restore my energies and settle my mind in an astonishingly effective way.

This year, what I hope to hold onto more than anything else is how necessary the stillness is.

For us all--children and adults alike.

The calendar fills up quickly each school year. The flurry of activity and the energy expressed each day is doable, and even enjoyable--when you take the time to breathe.

THE LITTLE THINGS

Our first year at MdTL was a complete blur. Pregnant with my second child and new to Marin, I didn't have the time or the wherewithal to get to know that many families. Now as I think back on our first two years at the school, I am recalling countless times when a helping hand would have been a very lovely thing indeed.
It's extraordinarily gratifying to help another person. I'm amazed at just how restorative it is; and I'm very mindful of how the help always comes back ten-fold. If one person gets a helping hand because of this blog; or finds a way to connect, contribute and conspire in a meaningful way--then YIPPEE! For what is our time here worth if we can't reach out and help one another?

YUMMY WORDS

“Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.”

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things... I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.”

~ Leo F. Buscaglia
