EARTHWEEK DAY 5: Happy Earth Day

"The earth is what we all have in common." ~ Wendell Berry

Please join us as we celebrate Earth Day with a composting demonstration by our Upper Elementary students, and a display of earthly thoughts by the students as well. At 3PM we will meet at our newly approved garden plot behind the school for a brief overview of what is to come this fall. Your soil donations can be brought to the school in the morning or the afternoon. Either way, we're going to get you dirty!

Even the Humming Bird Must Pause

"Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself."

Hermann Hesse

My summer garden at the close of a long warm day is one of my favorite places to be. 15 minutes at peace amongst the plants has the power to restore my energies and settle my mind in an astonishingly effective way.

This year, what I hope to hold onto more than anything else is how necessary the stillness is.

For us all--children and adults alike.

The calendar fills up quickly each school year. The flurry of activity and the energy expressed each day is doable, and even enjoyable--when you take the time to breathe.

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things... I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.”

~ Leo F. Buscaglia
